Becoming an Expert Squash Player

Formerly known as squash rackets, squash is a ball sport that is fun to engage in and just like any other sport, there are tips to help you become a pro. You can either play as doubles or single. Here are some of the tips to become an expert.

  • Always Keep Moving

Positioning is an important aspect of playing squash. As long as you are playing and in the four walls of the court, you have to anticipate and position yourself strategically. Don’t position yourself in one spot as this can never work. Anticipate the shot and keep moving to return the shots

  • Don’t Take Your Eyes off the Ball

The sport is played quite quickly and when you take your eyes off the ball, you will not be able to keep up with the game. The other reason is that you are hitting a small, hollow rubber ball that you have to keep track off. Watch your opponent hit it; watch it as you play and as the ball bounces around. It is the only way you can hit it properly without missing.

  • Limit Your Opponents Returns

You want to win in the game and thus you have to limit your opponents. How do you do this? You can achieve this by playing close to the walls and down the line. When you limit your opponents in returning the ball, you can easily predict their next move giving you a competitive edge.

  • Limit the Angle of the Ball Return

This is just like the above point where you limit your opponents. Here you make use of the corners. As you make your shots, target the corner as this will give your opponent a hard time in returning it. The good thing is that there are four corners that you can work with and if you do it well, you will be in control of the game.

  • Send the Ball to the Back of the Court

Another way to pressure your opponent is when you hit the ball properly to that it does not bounce around in front of the player. A good hit will send the squash ball to the back of the court. If you do not hit the ball a good length, it will be easy for your opponent to return the shot which is not something you want.

If you are looking forward to being an expert squash player, you have to learn how to position yourself; how to limit your opponent professionally, how to keep your eyes on the ball and how to become unpredictable in the game. Once you have perfected the techniques, it’s time to be unpredictable to your opponents.
